7 SAT Tips Going Viral This Week

October 12, 2026 · 4 min read

Every week we track the SAT strategies blowing up on TikTok, Instagram, and Reddit, check that they actually work, and rewrite them into advice you can use today. Here are this week's standouts.

1. The 3-Sentence Fix

After every practice test, take each question you missed and write exactly three sentences: why you missed it, which concept it was really testing, and what you'll do differently next time you see one like it.

Why it works: most students reread explanations passively and repeat the same mistakes. Naming the concept out loud trains pattern recognition — the skill that separates 1500+ scorers from everyone else. The method comes from creator @ultimateivyleagueguide, whose breakdown has over a million followers watching.

2. Two passes: flag and move on

On your first pass through a module, answer what you know immediately. Anything that looks slow gets your best guess, a flag, and you move on — then you return with your remaining time.

Why it works: the Digital SAT lets you navigate freely inside a module, and every question is worth the same. Banking the easy points first means hard questions can't steal time from ones you'd have gotten right. Shared this week by @brainblastsat.

3. Plug in the answers (backsolving)

Stuck on an algebra question? Skip the algebra: substitute each answer choice into the equation and see which one fits. Start with a middle value — if it's too big or too small, you can often eliminate two choices at once.

Why it works: it turns abstract solving into simple arithmetic, and it's usually faster than the "proper" method. The test rewards the right answer, not the prettiest solution.

4. The two-question trap filter (Reading)

Down to two answer choices? Interrogate each one twice: (1) Is it actually true according to the passage? (2) Does it answer the exact question asked? Eliminate anything that fails either test.

Why it works: the SAT loves trap answers that are factually true — lifted straight from the passage — but don't answer the question. This filter kills the most common way strong readers lose points.

5. Train with a shorter clock

Do practice modules with 2–3 minutes shaved off the real limit. A 35-minute Math module becomes a 32-minute one.

Why it works: it forces your brain into focus mode during practice, so the real time limit feels generous on test day. Tutor @satpreptutor compares it to a batter swinging a weighted bat before stepping up to the plate.

6. Eliminate first, choose second

Don't hunt for the right answer straight away. Cross out the choices that are definitely wrong first, then pick from what's left.

Why it works: it stops overthinking, and even your guesses get better — from a 25% shot to 33% or 50%. A small edge, applied dozens of times per test.

7. Add or subtract systems on sight

See two equations sharing a variable with opposite coefficients? Add them immediately and the variable vanishes. Example: 3x + 2y = 18 and 3x − 2y = 6 → add → 6x = 24 → x = 4.

Why it works: recognition beats computation. A viral walkthrough of this exact move shows how one glance can replace a full minute of algebra.
